Washington Street. New construction evolved to the owners’ vision of a formal woodland. We took an empty lot and added 20-foot native holly trees, large evergreen spruce trees, clumps of native white paper birch trees, and five native white dogwood trees to create interesting and layered privacy compatible with the site. The second layer consists of ribbons of azaleas, and native white rhododendron. The floor is low maintenance with swaths of pachysandra and native ferns. We were able to save a rare allée of evergreen yew trees along the driveway under which a variety of hydrangeas and spring blooming perennial bulbs, scilla, were planted.
